In response to an article by Andrew Clunis published in the Jamaica
Gleaner Online we began this non-profit domain
reservation program to reserve and recover domain names for Jamaican
artists and musicians, and specifically to prevent cyber-squatters from
grabbing their domain names and holding them for
"ransom".
"Cybersquatting involves the illegal usage of another person's web domain
and Jamaican artistes are being advised to be on the lookout for
individuals overseas who have been squatting on their domain".

Since the program
started over two years ago, we have reserved more than 75
domain names for Jamaica's artistes and musicians. We've also assisted with
the recovery of several more domain names for their rightful owners,
including:
www.iriefm.com
(mentioned in the Gleaner article)
www.gregoryisaacs.com
www.jrgong.com
www.anthonyb.com
www.georgenooks.com
www.mutabaruka.com
etc., etc., etc.
We
have made arrangements with Jamaica Web Services
to provide special discount rates for all Jamaican
artists and musicians. The regular price for domain registration (through Network
Solutions or Cable & Wireless) is US$70 for 2 years - Your price
through JAAA is
only $8.95/year.
Our
domain name reservation services are
provided free, and the artists' only obligation is to re-imburse JAAA for
their own domain
registration fees - US$8.95/year that we already spent to reserve the name
on their behalf (US$10.95 for online credit card transactions).
All domains also include the following
FREE services:
e-mail forwarding
URL redirection
sub-domains
free parking/welcome page
mobile text messaging page
domain management control panel
and lots more...
